The Cast of 'Sparkle' Remembers Whitney

Whitney Houston sparkled! According to the producer and costars of the late musician and actress's final film, a remake of the 1976 musical favorite 'Sparkle'.

Jordin Sparks remembers a special moment with Whitney Houston:
"One of my favorite stories is we were filming the dinner scene with all of us there," Sparks remembered. "We were waiting for camera to turn. I actually went and sat in the room where the piano was. And I was sitting there just kind of plunking things out at the piano. And, all of a sudden, these two arms came around me and started playing this beautiful piece on the piano. And I looked over and Whitney's leaning over my shoulder and she's like singing and playing. I was just sitting there going, 'This is not happening right now.' The only way I can describe it is that it was really intimate. She was very encouraging."

Debra Martin Chase/Producer, "Sparkle," on completing the film:
"I saw the film the Tuesday before she died. The studio had not seen it. Salim (Akil) had not officially finished his director's cut. So, it was in its early stages. You know Sony, Salim, all of us made a commitment to just make the best movie possible. And so we took our time. You know, there was a big flurry about whether we were going to rush the release of it. Now, we were always ... just decided from the beginning that there was no reason to. We wanted to make possible, because this is the world's final look at Whitney Houston and these will be the images that they remember. And it's important that they be right."

Actress Tika Sumpter, on her memories of Whitney Houston:
"The one thing I'll never forget about her is how nurturing she was, how she wanted us to soar. And, for me, growing up in a household full of six brothers and sisters, a single mom. My mom, sometimes, wasn't always able to tell how proud of me she was. So, one day, I was sitting in the corner, and she (Houston) came up to me, and she took my chin and said, 'I'm so proud of you.' And that was big. (Holds back tears.)"
