Think Pink This October!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and we are thinking pink. Did you know about one in every eight women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime? This month, do something to help your mother, sister, friend or co-worker fighting this disease. This October, many companies are inspiring shoppers to show their support and to help make a difference. When you are out shopping this month, remember to think pink!

SHARPIE

Pink is the new black in the world of celebrity autographs as Sharpie® kicks off its annual "Ink It Pink" campaign to help fight breast cancer. The preferred autograph marker of celebrities everywhere, Sharpie is challenging celebrities and fans to ink it pink for the cause. For every pink autograph signed and submitted to www.sharpie.com during the month of October, Sharpie will donate $1* to City of Hope, one of the nation's leading cancer research, treatment and education centers.

BUTTER BELL

Butter Bell (www.butterbell.com) created a Pastel Pink Crock. A portion of the proceeds from the crock will be donated to the Living Beyond Breast Cancer Foundation. The LBBC is a national education and support organization that helps women with breast cancer live long, healthy lives. Their programs and services make a huge difference, especially for those who have little financial means or family support. Butter Bell’s founder, Lisa Tremain is a breast cancer survivor so helping others is a priority. 10% of the sales from each Pastel Pink Crock sold will be donated to the LBBC (www.LBBC.org).

KOHL'S

This year, to raise awareness of Kohl's commitment to the cause and to Susan G. Komen Southeast Wisconsin Race for the Cure, Kohl's created the "Every Ribbon Tells a Story" initiative. Kohl's commissioned artists to design 16 unique six-foot-tall ribbon sculptures, each depicting the artists' personal connections to breast cancer and acting as a symbol of hope and support for those affected by breast cancer. The ribbons are now available for public auction at www.KohlsCaresRibbons.com from Saturday, September 24 through Tuesday, October 4, with proceeds benefitting the Southeast Wisconsin affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

PAYLESS
This year's featured accessory item – the 2011 Payless Breast Cancer Awareness earring set primarily benefitting Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Payless ShoeSource, is proud to offer its Embrace the Cause item in all of its stores and online at Payless.com for just $2 – an affordable price that allows more people to get involved and contribute to breast cancer awareness.

DRESS BARN

Beginning Oct, 1, a dedicated website – www.yourdressbarn.com/mypinkpledge - will urge women to take the 'Pink Pledge,' a public promise to take steps toward a healthier lifestyle. The site will also share stories of breast cancer survivors, and invite users to add their own stories of inspiration. "Breast cancer is openly spoken about," said Vivian Behrens, EVP and chief marketing officer at dressbarn and maurices. "Women aren't afraid to share their stories of survival or speak openly about the importance of early detection. We view the 'Pink Pledge' as a social platform to enhance awareness, allowing women to publicly promise to take care of themselves to help curtail the devastating effects of the disease."
