TLC Performs At Mixtape Festival & New Album Release

TLC is back and they are as HOT as ever!!!!!

After a long-awaited return of TLC to an American stage, the two remaining members of the 90s girl-group hip hop sensation performed at Hershey Park's Summer Mixtape Festival on Saturday. They closed the show performing 'No Scrubs' and surprised fans by bringing out Lil Mama.

TLC's Mixtape performance, 11 years after the death of group member Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes, marks TLC's first duo performance in America since a 3-song set in May 2011 on the American Idol season finale.

"It was really different," Watkins said recalling the time after Lopes' death. "It's still different. It's been over 10 years. You have to creatively figure out what to do, initially figuring out how to make it work. The journey is hard."

But Watkins and Thomas never left each other. Though they have been away from the American stage for years, they haven't stopped doing what they love.

"I haven't ever stopped performing," Watkins said.

They've been performing in Japan instead, where they're still No. 1, Watkins said. On June 19, TLC celebrated its 20th anniversary in the music industry with a compilation album "TLC 20: 20th Anniversary Hits," exclusively for their fans in Japan. Watkins and Thomas re-recorded old hits for the album. A few days later, TLC won the Legend Award at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards in Japan.

TLC have reunited with L.A. Reid. Reid has re-signed them to the LaFace name under Epic Records, which will release an album on October 15th. The yet-to-be-titled collection will feature the group’s most beloved and biggest singles, plus four brand-new songs, including “Meant To Be,” which was written by Ne-Yo and will be used during the closing credits of the upcoming VH1 Original Movie, CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story. Another song, “Posh Life,” was produced and co-written by Grammy Award-winner Dallas Austin (who co-produced TLC’s CrazySexyCool and FanMail) and Lady Gaga.

“It gives me great pleasure to welcome TLC back into the LaFace/Epic Records family,” comments L.A. Reid. “TLC is still the most important girl band of all time.”

On Monday, October 21st, VH1 will premiere its scripted original movie CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story, which was written by screenwriter Kate Lanier (What’s Love Got To Do With It, Set it Off) and directed by Charles Stone III (Drumline, Paid in Full), with Thomas and Watkins serving as executive producers. The film, which chronicles TLC’s humble beginnings in Atlanta and unprecedented rise to fame in the ’90s, stars KeKe Palmer (Akeela & The Bee) as Chilli, Drew Sidora (Step Up) as T-Boz, and Lil Mama (America’s Best Dance Crew) as Left Eye, who died in a car crash in 2002. Lil Mama will be featured on the new material of the album.
