It has been well over a year since Will Smith and Jay-Z announced their plans to remake the classic Annie. Last week it was announced that Aline Brosh McKenna, best known for The Devil Wears Prada and 27 Dresses, is set to rewrite the script. McKenna will draw on both the hit Broadway musical and the comic strips that first introduced the plucky orphan for the adaptation. Will Smith will produce under Overbrook Entertainment (which he owns), and Jay-Z will produce the soundtrack for the film.
