Heidi Klum: Beauty or Geek?

(AP) -- Heidi Klum isn't exactly a tech geek. But the supermodel-turned-TV personality is comfortable doing most of her shopping online and letting her children - even her 1 1/2 year-old daughter - play on her iPad.

Klum says her media habits include browsing news on AOL and watching German TV for a more worldly perspective than US cable news networks offer.

"I feel like it is always a bit one-sided over here in a way. I want to know what is going on all over the place a little bit," Klum said.

"Because I think a lot of the networks here, too, they kind of push a little bit their own philosophy on what gets aired on there instead of kind of being matter-of-fact or just showing the facts sometimes. So already you have to follow whatever that network believes in, in a way, and I don't love that so much."

Klum shops for diapers and clothes and shampoo on Amazon.com, saying it saves her driving time and allows her to get shopping done while her children are in bed.

"Life has just become so much easier because of websites like that. So that's where I like to shop for example," she said.

"I like to be sitting on my bed with my laptop, after dinner and the kids are sleeping. That's really the time that you have to do that. Especially in L.A., you go in your car, you drive everywhere for a half an hour, and a half hour back. So you're already gone for an hour. And that hour just sitting in the car alone, I can get everything done just sitting on my computer. It's easy."

Klum gives her children 30 minute blocks of time with the iPad, saying she knows they'll need to be computer-savvy to succeed.

"Unfortunately books will just kind of be less and less and less over the years and most things will be on the computers," she said.

"So children have to know and learn their way around - it's a different kind of brain you know - opening windows and doing all these things on the computer. It's a different way of growing up. Our 1 1/2 year-old, she can already maneuver the iPad and slide things around and push buttons."

Her kids play both educational games and that addictive favorite: Angry Birds.

Klum has partnered with AOL for a new website at heidiklum.aol.com.
