Military uniforms was Kris Van Assche's inspiration for the Dior Homme Ready-To-Wear Fall|Winter 2012 collection. Van Assche said marrying tailoring to sportswear was his primary mission this season, and the soldier theme left him lots of room to maneuver.

Eat And Drink Diet Foods or Not?

These days it’s hard to figure out what’s safe to eat or drink diet foods without counting calories, starving yourself, giving up your favorite foods, or eating bland packaged foods.

In her new book Lose Weight Without Dieting or Working Out, Nutritionist and certified weight loss expert JJ Smith says you have to be really careful when shopping at the grocery store.

Why? Diet foods can make you fat.

“Many products,” she says, “are allowed to use the word ‘diet’, because they have some reduced amount of sugar or fat. But unless you look really carefully at all the ingredients, you won’t be able to identify all the hidden ones that can contribute to weight gain.”

She’s come up with a quick list of the reasons why anyone who is trying to slim down needs to avoid certain diet foods:

Sugar-free baked goods
Read the labels carefully! They can have the same or even more fat than the original recipes! You may also be fooled into eating so many because they were labeled as “diet” that you exceed your daily goals without even realizing it. Try graham crackers instead. They have less sugar than other cookies and very little fat, about 2 grams per serving.

Reykjavik, Iceland
Iceland might sound like the antithesis of a romantic tropical island, and it is! But that doesn’t mean that Iceland isn’t a sexy and romantic destination to sweep your loved one of their feet. The Blue Lagoon’s swim up bar and countless grottos and caves offer plenty of discreet corners for a kiss and a cuddle before you hit the town to partake in one of Europe’s wildest nightlife.

Todd Patkin’s Ten Simple Secrets for Making 2012 Your Happiest Year Yet

Todd Patkin

Are you really, truly happy? If we’re honest, most of us would respond with a reluctant no. Todd Patkin—a businessman and philanthropist who kicked anxiety and depression and went on to write a book on happiness—wants you to have a different answer next year.

Every January 1, in a blur of champagne and party chatter, we toss out those three little words like so much glittering confetti. They’re as much a staple of the annual milestone as Dick Clark and the Times Square ball. But how many of us take the time to think about what the phrase truly means? What is happiness, anyway? What does it look like? And—most important of all—how can we achieve it?

Todd Patkin thinks he has the answer to this question.

“We’re all longing for happiness,” says Patkin, author of Finding Happiness: One Man’s Quest to Beat Depression and Anxiety and—Finally—Let the Sunshine In. “We think we can achieve it by losing ten pounds or kicking a bad habit or making more money, and that’s why we vow to do those things year after year after year.

Pregnancy Style Tips

Managing to stay stylish during pregnancy is quite the challenge, and Project Runway’s Kristin Haskins-Simms is no stranger to being creative with her wardrobe. Kristin, the master behind the clothing label Strangefruit has provided her tips for how Mom’s to be can get celeb worthy style without breaking the bank.

Kristin's tips on how to dress your bump in style:

Wear Leather (or Faux)!
“ I know it sounds crazy but I find that when I wear a light leather motorcycle style jacket paired with black yoga pants, ballet flats, an elongated Tee to cover the belly and a scarf, I always get a double take. Sometimes I wear tights/leggings with knee high flat boots (2" and under) and wear one of my old tube-style dresses or skirts that have an elastic waistband. Pair this with a motorcycle and you are just as fab as the fashionistas. I also have leather wristlet accessories that I wear over a long sleeve tee. It's more of a statement but it garners attention as most don't think pregnant moms can or want to be fabulous. “

Hip Hop: Keeping It Positive

Hip-hop music often gets a bad rap. The songs are not always about girls, guns and gangsters - there's also conscious rap, which focuses on creating awareness and imparting knowledge. Conscious rappers traditionally decry violence, discrimination, and other societal ailments. Ludacris, Melle Mel and Common talks about why conscious rap is so important.

Rapper Ludacris has often been targeted for his lyrics and sexually explicit music videos. However the Atlanta native also has a humanitarian side to him.

"I have my own foundation, The Ludacris Foundation, where we give back, of course to underprivileged families. We have been doing this almost ten years now. We're coming up on our ten year anniversary."

Indeed, he's quick to point out that he also address social issues in his songs.

"I feel like the platform that I am at of course in my music, you have songs where you talk about realistic situations that are going on in life, but you also you talk about things like the song 'Runaway Love' that I have. It was bringing attention to a problem that not as many people know about . There is like a million kids that run away from home. So I feel like hip hop is definitely a form where you have an ear, you have people listening, you use that to your advantage."

Make 2012 the Year to Stop Enduring and Start Living the Life

Looking for something with more impact (and sticking power) than the usual doomed-to-fail resolutions? I want you to make 2012 the year you finally buck up and start living the life YOU want to live--recession be damned!
By Vickie Milazzo

2011 is drawing to a close and, for many recession-wracked American women, it feels like just another mile marker in an endurance race going nowhere. Depressing, but true. We trudge through the week at a dreary job, drive home fretting about money, and spend our evenings robot-walking through the usual haze of homework battles and half-finished chores.  Passion and fulfillment? Nope, just sheer survival. And the worst part is, most of us have meekly accepted that this is how it has to be right now.

I'm not talking about the kind of New Year's resolution that's just wishful thinking pasted on top of your old lifestyle. I'm talking about truly changing the way you think about things, breaking old habits, putting some real boundaries in place and tapping into your determination.
